Sarah Francis James

Ms. Sarah Frances James, lovingly known to her family and friends as Sarah, was a devoted mother, daughter, and sister. She was born on October 17, 1939, in Newton County, Georgia, to the late Mr. Leonard Hammonds and Mrs. Martha Hammonds. She peacefully departed this life on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Sarah was a proud graduate of R.L. Cousins High School in Covington, Georgia, Class of 1958. She was a faithful attendee of Mt. Zion Church in Oxford, Georgia.

She was a loving and devoted mother to her children: Amanda, Roderick, Carissa (wife), Dexter, and Reginald. She also leaves to cherish her memory eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one great-great-grandchild, as well as seven nieces and four nephews.

The family and friends of Sarah Francis James invite all who knew her to join in a visitation to honor her memory, Thursday, April 16, 2026, 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Lester Lackey & Sons Chapel 1163 Reynolds St. SW Covington, GA 30014. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, 12:00 Noon at Lester Lackey & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Interment, Private. " A Service of Dignity, A Trademark of Excellence."
