George found his greatest joy in family.

With deep respect and loving remembrance, we reflect upon the life of George Franklin Benson, who departed this world on July 10, 2026. Born on October 23, 1941, in Water Valley, Mississippi, George's 84 years were marked by dedication, love, and a quiet strength that touched all who knew him.

George’s early life began in Water Valley, where he attended Davidson Elementary School. In 1955, he relocated to Oxford, Mississippi, and continued his education, completing 10th grade at Taylor Vocational High School. These formative years laid the foundation of a strong work ethic and a steadfast character that would serve him—and his family—well throughout his life.

In 1963, George made the significant move to Memphis, Tennessee. There, he began his career at the Royal Crown Bottling Company and later at Montgomery Wholesale Warehouse. Always seeking new opportunities, George relocated to Chicago, Illinois in 1967. His determination and reliability were evident as he found employment at Sears, serving for 20 years with distinction. George’s career in Chicago also included thirteen years at Robert Bosch Tool Corporation, a period marked by his commitment and hard work, before retiring. He worked for several other companies during this time, always bringing diligence and integrity to every role.

George found his greatest joy in family. In 1968, united in love, he married Queenie Benson. Their loving union was blessed with two sons, Dedric and Tremayne Benson—a source of immense pride throughout George’s life.
